Forgotten Grasslands of the Carolinas
From the mountains to the coast, South Carolina once had abundant grasslands. Unique features of South Carolina's history, climate, geology, and soils created conditions conducive to grasslands, but now grasslands are some of the most imperiled terrestrial ecosystems in the country. There are some remnants that can be observed, and they give us glimpse of the past and an impetus for restoration. Program is lecture/presentation followed by guided walk onsite through Dottie Metzler Prairie. This program qualifies for 2.5 hours towards your Master Naturalist Advanced Training annual requirements.
